December FINE Newsletter: Family Involvement Storybook Corner

This month's FINE Newsletter launches a new section in the Resource area of its website: The Family Involvement Storybook Corner is a unique new source for information on using children's storybooks with family involvement themes to engage families in their children's education and encourage family–school–community partnerships, all while supporting literacy. It provides a list of storybooks with family involvement themes and tools for using the storybooks. As usual, this month's newsletter has links to many other family involvement resources on the Web, including websites, a book, and an upcoming event.

November FINE Newsletter: Resources on Adolescent Learning

This month's FINE Newsletter has pulled together a compilation of resources available in the FINE section of our website on family involvement in adolescent learning and development. This month's FINE Newsletter has added a new family involvement teaching case, After School for Cindy, along with three expert commentaries on the case. Also new is a Member Insight on whether teacher preparation is key to improving teacher practices with families. Sept. FINE Newsletter: Family Involvement Online Resource Guide

This month's FINE Newsletter has significantly expanded its Resources section by publishing a compilation of family involvement resources available on the Web, with links to research, information, programs, and tools from over 100 national organizations. Also new this month is research on whether graduate students in early childhood programs are family-centered as well as research on how involved families with children with disabilities are in their children's education. Sherick Hughes, Assistant Professor at the University of Toledo, answers how we can prepare teachers to work with culturally diverse students and their families. This month's FINE Newsletter has published a research report on how colleges of education can better prepare teachers to partner with parents and communities, a digest of new research on British Bangladeshi and Pakistani parent involvement in their children's education, a conference workshop on family involvement in out-of-school time programs, and a syllabus for a course on the past, present, and future trends in child and family policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. April FINE Newsletter: New Conference Section and Research Digests

We have added a new section to the FINE area of our website—conference presentations on family–school partnerships. In this section we share resources from conferences we organized as well as presentations we've made. This month we published the agenda and presentation transcripts and slides from our Family, School, and Community Connections Symposium. We also published a keynote address by HFRP director, Heather Weiss, on evaluating family support. This month's newsletter also includes two new digests of current family involvement research. This month's FINE Newsletter has published a research report from Greece entitled, “Syneducation” (Synekpaidefsis): Reinforcing Communication and Strengthening Cooperation Among Students, Parents, and Schools; a research digest entitled, Accomplished Teachers and Their Interactions With Parents: A Comparative Analysis of Strategies and Techniques; and a new member insight on how we can prepare teachers to work with culturally diverse students and their families.
