Preparing Teachers to Involve Parents. (1994). Cambridge, MA: Harvard Family Research Project.
This paper presents the results of a survey on teacher preparation in parent involvement in over 50 teacher education programs across the country. Results showed that many educators are not receiving adequate preparation in how to work with parents, social service agencies, and communities. Recommendations for teacher educators and state certification are given.

This report discusses how 10 teacher education programs are preparing teachers to work with families and communities. The report explains why preservice teacher education should be a focus of education reform and discusses the benefits of innovative training strategies.
A New “Network of Networks”
Recently, a steering committee was established to coordinate the efforts of organizations whose goals include training public school personnel, fostering university-community links, and transforming human service agencies as well as the professionals who work in them.
This new steering committee consists of: the Center for Collaboration for Children, California State U., Fullerton; Interprofessional Commission of Ohio, Ohio State U.; Human Service Policy Center, U. of Washington; Inter Professional Education, Texas A&M U.; and the National Center for Social Work and Education Collaboration (NCSWEC), Fordham U. (which serves as the network's information clearinghouse). Funders and U.S. government agencies also participate in the steering committee.
Within this network, a group has formed to examine issues in the evaluation of interprofessional education programs, using an Internet listserve maintained by the clearinghouse at Fordham. With the cooperation of the interprofessional education evaluation network, the clearinghouse will coordinate regular contributions to future issues of The Evaluation Exchange.
