National Center on Parent, Family, and Community Engagement

The Office of Head Start National Center on Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (NCPFCE) is one of six centers comprising Head Start’s Training and Technical Assistance (T/TA) System. A partnership between the Brazelton Touchpoints Center and Harvard Family Research Project, NCPFCE uses a professional development and communications approach to help Head Start/Early Head Start programs adopt research-informed practices for promoting integrated, systemic, and sustained parent, family, and community engagement.

National Family, School, and Community Engagement Working Group

The National Family, School, and Community Engagement Working Group, a collaborative of leaders in the family engagement field, including HFRP director Heather Weiss, informed the development and implementation of federal policy related to family, school, and community engagement in education. The Working Group mobilized partnerships to promote kindergarten readiness, improve schools, and increase student achievement.

Read more about the Working Group’s involvement with family engagement policy on the U.S. Department of Education’s website, Ed.gov.

National Coordination Center for the Parental Information and Resource Centers (PIRC)

Harvard Family Research Project collaborated with Southwest Education Development Laboratory (SEDL) to serve as the National Coordination Center for the PIRC program. The program provided federal funds to 62 organizations working to promote successful parental involvement policies and programs throughout the United States and its territories. HFRP provided technical assistance and support to PIRCs, with a focus on evaluation approaches, strategic planning and leadership, and policy development and implementation.

National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)

Harvard Family Research Project and the National PTA teamed up to publish this series of ground-breaking policy briefs on family engagement policy and practice. The series examines the role of school districts in promoting family engagement. Based on case studies from across the country, the briefs reveal innovative efforts in ways that student data systems are used to improve family engagement.  The briefs also highlight the need for teacher education programs to prepare teachers to work with families more effectively.
