Last month, the PreK-3rd National Working Group invited HFRP's Christine Patton to speak on the importance of family engagement during the webinar, Allies Not Foes: School-Family Partnerships. This was the third webinar in an eight-part series on reducing achievement gaps.

Christine joined an impressive panel of researchers, local groups, and school districts who each shared  her perspective on building strong partnerships between families and schools:

  • Mimi Howard, a fellow at the Office of Head Start, spoke about Head Start's guide for building partnerships for sustained learning.
  • Julie Wood, Former Implementation Administrator at the Harvard Graduate School of Education for "Three to Third" in the Boston Public Schools, explored home visiting as a catalyst for family engagement.
  • Mary Ellen Burns, Vice President of Partner Relations, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, discussed the role of "parent rooms" in re-building family engagement.

To learn more about the webinar, search for "Allies Not Foes: School-Family Partnerships"  on the webinar archive page of the PreK-3rd National Working Group's website.

You may also access the slides in PDF format here and a recording of the webinar here. If you are prompted to download GoToMeeting, you may do so here.
