The Education Sector, a nonprofit education policy think tank, recently published Five Design Principles for Smarter Data Systems, an editorial calling for improved data systems to measure student learning.
Given her expertise on the ways in which complementary learning supports—including family and community engagement, after school, and summer programs—contribute to student learning and school success, HFRP Founder and Director Heather Weiss was asked to contribute her thoughts about these design principals, and their potential impact on “cradle-to-career” pathways in a guest post on the Education Sector blog, The Quick and the Ed.
Her blog post, "Five Big Ideas for Data Rigor...WIthout Moris" cites examples such as The New York City Department of Education's Achievement Reporting and Innovation System (ARIS), as well as the New Visions School Data Snapshot. The blog post also highlights the benefits of accessible and usable data systems to support learning in and out of school.
