Helping Older Youth Succeed Through Expanded Learning Opportunities
The Beyond School blog on Education Week's website covered the recent release of Harvard Family Research Project’s research brief on expanded learning opportunities (ELO). The brief, entitled Helping Older Youth Succeed Through Expanded Learning Opportunities, is the first in a series co-authored with the National Council of State Legislatures on ELO research, policy, and practice.
The brief examines the benefits of ELOs for older youth, such as lower drop out rates, improved attitudes towards school, and stronger connections to adults and peers. It also distills common characteristics of high-quality programs and initiatives, and policy recommendations based on these findings.
