Family Involvement in Middle and High School Students' Education synthesizes the latest research that demonstrates how family involvement contributes to adolescents' learning and development.
In a guest commentary for The Sacramento Bee, Sacramento County schools’ superintendent David Gordon sends a back-to-school reminder to parents: Parent involvement plays a key role in children’s education. His message for parents includes several concrete examples of how they can become involved, including helping with homework and getting to know their children’s teachers.
Citing Harvard Family Research Project’s Family Involvement in Middle and High School Students' Education, Gordon discusses the import role that family involvement plays in bolstering students' academic achievement.

"The Harvard Family Research Project studied family involvement for secondary students. To no one's surprise, the report found the positive impact on students' academic achievement results from higher levels of parental attendance and volunteering at school functions.
"The project also pointed out that parents who are more involved on campus and in the classroom are better informed about how their children are progressing both socially and academically."
