Ed Honowitz, a board member of the Pasadena Unified School District in Los Angeles County, cites research from Harvard Family Research Project as he writes in the La Cañada Valley Sun about the need for his district to build “strategic partnerships and authentic engagement strategies with parents and community members . . . that support academic improvement and remove barriers to learning.“

The need is particularly acute, writes Honowitz, given the loss funding to California public schools. As in other communities across the country—some of which are profiled in HFRP’s work—students benefit when school districts build “innovative collaborations across public and private sectors to magnify their collective impact and better use dwindling public funds.”
