Title1Admin.com recently covered the release of Teaching the Teachers: Preparing Educators to Engage Families for Student Achievement, an issue brief co-authored by Harvard Family Research Project and the National PTA. The brief examines how teacher education programs can create the foundation for meaningful family engagement, offering five core elements necessary for a system of teacher training and professional development in support of family engagement.

Title1Admin.com points out that, while the brief focuses on colleges and universities, its findings can also be used to inform a district's training and to guide efforts to partner with local colleges of education and other groups: "Particularly for Title I schools working with immigrant families and minority parents, revamping your family engagement teacher training and support can improve school climate, reduce burnout, and improve student achievement."
