Title1Admin.com recently covered the release of Harvard Family Research Project’s research brief Year-Round Learning: Linking School, Afterschool, and Summer Learning to Support Student Success. The brief examines how year-round learning can create a "seamless learning environment" that can help stem summer learning loss and enhance school district–community partnerships to tap resources outside of schools to help close the achievement gap.

Year-round learning is built on the understanding that learning happens across the day, across the year, and in all of the multiple settings were youth spend time. Among the 14 initiatives studied in the brief, four key principles for supporting children and youth through year-round learning emerged: 1) Remove barriers to learning and increase access to learning supports and enrichment opportunities, 2) Be student-centered and family-centered, 3) Build on organizational commitment, capacity, and flexibility, and 4) Engage and be active in the local community. As Title1Admin.com notes, “there isn’t any one approach or style that all districts and communities must follow to find success.”
