Title1Admin.com highlights the role of Harvard Family Research Project, partnering with the Brazelton Touchpoints Center at Children's Hospital Boston, in running the new federally funded National Center on Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (NCPFCE). One of five national Head Start technical assistance centers, NCPFCE is helping Head Start programs to adopt research-based best practices in family, school, and community engagement.
Funded through a five-year grant from the Office of Head Start, the Center is presently in its start-up phase. The NCPFCE is conducting a needs and strengths assessment, looking at research in addition to what is happening on the ground. The results of this assessment will include creating training and tools for Head Start programs. Future plans also include setting up a hotline for providers to ask questions; developing a list of experts who can help programs navigate challenges; and releasing a community self-assessment and readiness guide, which will help programs strengthen their parent, family, and community engagement work.
