Parent–teacher conferences play an important role in home–school communication, which can help ensure positive outcomes for both schools and students. To mark this year’s conference season, Bam! radio interviewed Harvard Family Research Project’s (HFRP) Heidi Rosenberg—along with PTA president Betsy Landers and parenting blogger Susan Heim—to discuss how families and teachers can make the most of their time together during a conference.

This fast-paced episode covers a lot of ground. Heidi provides concrete examples for some of the suggestions in HFRP’s Parent–Teacher Conference Tip Sheets. Additionally, you will learn:

  • How teachers and families can prepare before the conference
  • Information teachers can share to help families support their child’s learning
  • How teachers can help parents feel comfortable during the conference
  • Advice for talking with parents about tough issues
  • What schools and teachers can do to ensure greater participation and attendance at conferences
