The Quad-City Times of Davenport, Iowa reports that two schools in the Davenport district are in their second year of participating in a family involvement program, Iowa’s Sustaining Parental Involvement Network (iSPIN). iSPIN was profiled in “Taking Leadership, Innovating Change: Profiles in Family, School, and Community Engagement,” a report developed by the National Family, School, and Community Engagement Working Group and issued through Harvard Family Research Project.

The Quad-City Times cites the influence of “Taking Leadership, Innovating Change” in garnering recognition for iSPIN as a “nationally recognized program aimed at getting parents more plugged in to their child’s education.” Developed by the Iowa Parent Information Resource Center (Iowa PIRC), iSPIN is led by school community councils comprised of parents and teachers that meet twice a month. The article quotes a school principal who “said that teachers at the school have had their eyes opened about what’s important to parents by the program.”
