The Missouri Capitol Report, a blog written by State Senator Jason Crowell and hosted by the Southeast Missourian, sends a message to parents about the importance of being involved in their children’s education as they get ready for the school year to begin.

Citing work from Harvard Family Research Project, Senator Crowell suggests a number of ways that parents can engage in their children’s education, such as staying in touch with teachers, participating in shaping program policy by joining the PTA or parent advisory board, and reading to children at home and talking to them about their school work and homework.

Excerpt from the blog post:

[R]esearch groups such as the Harvard Family Research Project agree that a child's success is closely related parental involvement. Research shows that when parents and teachers are in touch, children are more likely to do well in school. And when parents are heavily involved with schools, children's academic performance vastly improves.
