Research Update No. 5: STEM Out-of-School Time Programs for Girls
The Marietta Daily Journal recently featured Girl Scouts from Georgia who solved the problem of limited visibility behind wheelchairs. Aged 12-14, the girls won the “Making a Difference” Judges’ Award at the FIRST LEGO League World Festival in St. Louis, Missouri, earlier this year. While at the festival, the girls participated in a robotics competition designed to inspire children in science and technology.
The article cited Harvard Family Research Project’s Research Update No. 5: STEM Out-of-School Time Programs for Girls. The Update highlights the importance of out-of-school time programs that focus on girls’ involvement in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) because such programs can play a role in improving female representation in these traditionally male-dominated fields.
