Dear FINE Member,

Last week, we shared with you our new bilingual online storybook, Tomasito's Mother Comes to School/La mamá de Tomasito visita la escuela, as well as other resources for engaging Latino and English Language Learner families. We hope you found them useful!

Before we sign off for the summer, we offer our loyal FINE members this special bonus issue of the FINE announcement—our last till September. In this issue we announce our newest research brief, providing you with practical, research-based information on family involvement in middle and high school. As always, we encourage you to share this and other HFRP resources with friends and colleagues.

Family Involvement Makes a Difference

With the end of the academic year comes the third and final brief in our series, Family Involvement Makes a Difference. In this announcement, we are proud to share with you the complete series—which provides evidence of family involvement's importance for children of all ages, as well as direct recommendations for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers.

  • Family Involvement in Middle and High School

Our newest brief, Family Involvement in Middle and High School Students' Education, synthesizes research studies that link family involvement in middle and high school to youth's academic and social outcomes. The brief profiles evaluated programs to show what works to promote family involvement and student achievement during this critical developmental period and highlights how you can use this research to promote effective policies and practices.

Related Resource

In addition to the Family Involvement Makes a Difference series, we also offer you the following related family involvement resource, which we first shared with you in October, for your perusal over the summer.

  • Family-Strengthening Programs That Work

This brief, entitled Lessons From Family-Strengthening Interventions: Learning From Evidence-Based Practice, complements the Family Involvement Makes a Difference series with valuable information about creating successful programs and evaluations. In it, we review family-strengthening interventions that have been rigorously evaluated through experimental studies and find some common elements among successful programs.

Have a Great Summer!

We hope that you find these—and the other resources we have shared with you over the past academic year—valuable in your work. We look forward to receiving your feedback and to sharing more family involvement resources with you when the FINE announcement resumes in September.
