Dear FINE Members,

In this abbreviated issue of the FINE Newsletter, we offer suggestions for your summer reading lists. We review John Merrow's new book, The Influence of Teachers: Reflections on Teaching and Leadership and include our 2010 Family Involvement Bibliography for you to peruse. And, as always, we provide a round-up of recent family involvement news and updates. In her review of Merrow’s book, early childhood teacher and former HFRP staffer Ashley Chu provides her personal reflections on the implications of Merrow’s work for educators’ and schools’ family engagement efforts. The 2010 Bibliography offers a comprehensive listing of books, articles, dissertations, and other resources published last year that address a variety of issues related to family engagement in education.

Our fall issue of the FINE Newsletter will focus on new roles for families as children's learning worlds expand. To inform the issue, we are seeking insight from our FINE audience. If you use digital media to engage with students’ families, or teach parents how to use digital media to support their child’s learning, we’d love to hear from you! In addition to digital media, the fall Newsletter will also feature new information about families’ roles in data sharing and extended learning time. Please submit examples via email to fine@gse.harvard.edu, through Facebook, or via Twitter, directing comments to @HFRP.

We invite your feedback on the topics we explore in this FINE Newsletter, and encourage you to pass on this issue to interested friends and colleagues. We've made it even easier to share FINE content with your social networks: Find the "share" button on the left of every page and send interesting articles via email or through other platforms such as Facebook or Twitter.
